Pieter van Buuren Appointed CFO of Global Macadamias Co

Nov 4, 2024 | News

Global Macadamias Co, a leading processor and exporter of macadamia nuts, has appointed Pieter van Buuren as its new Chief Financial Officer. Based in Nelspruit, Mpumalanga, Pieter joins the company in November 2024 and will play a key role in overseeing and strengthening the financial strategy of the organisation as it continues to expand its reach in the global market.

Pieter brings with him over two decades of experience in financial management, with an extensive background in corporate finance, strategic planning, and project management. His career has included prominent financial leadership roles across various sectors, including manufacturing, construction, and chemicals, making him well-suited to support Global Macadamias’ mission of providing high-quality macadamia products to customers in over 45 countries.

Most recently, Pieter served as Interim CFO at iOCO, a Johannesburg-based technology services company, where he led financial operations for five months. Prior to that, he held a strategic role as Project Manager at Saint-Gobain South Africa, where he was responsible for driving key projects across the organisation. Between January 2022 and November 2023, he also served as Head of Finance and CFO for Saint-Gobain Weber South Africa, demonstrating his capability in leading financial departments of large, multinational corporations.

Early career

Earlier in his career, Pieter held CFO roles at companies such as Basil Read Limited and York Timbers Holdings Ltd, gaining significant experience in finance and IT management. His work in these positions involved overseeing financial reporting, business model development, and funding strategies, all of which align with Global Macadamias’ ambitions to streamline and optimise its financial operations.

Global Macadamias Co, established in 2020, operates a state-of-the-art processing facility in Alkmaar, Mpumalanga. The company’s factory, equipped with the latest in drying and processing technology, is designed to meet global quality standards while maintaining environmentally friendly practices. Strategically located in South Africa’s primary macadamia production area, the facility enables the company to process large volumes of macadamia nuts, sourced from both shareholder farms and independent growers in key regions worldwide.

As the company’s new CFO, Pieter will be responsible for supporting Global Macadamias’ growth in the international market, leveraging his expertise to enhance financial processes, improve operational efficiencies, and drive long-term sustainability. His appointment comes at a time when the global demand for macadamia nuts is on the rise, driven by consumer interest in health-conscious and plant-based foods.

CFO Peter Kimingi chooses impact over glamour

‘Prior to joining the non-profit sector, one should ask oneself what makes one tick. If one is happy chasing a high-profit corporate job, this is not the right sector. This is a space for people looking to have an impact at a fundamental level and to create real change in people’s lives. It’s a shame that people often see this area as one for second-class citizens yet it is a critical cog that fills the void left by government and the private sector neglecting certain societal needs. It may not be glamorous, but if impact and meaningful work are what you’re looking for, then this is the sector for you,’ Peter says.
