UNSHACKLED : The Jeff van Rooyen story, from the township to the boardroom
As his autobiography documents, black people have always been disadvantaged in the accounting profession due to, among other reasons, the fact that they were required to attend school in the townships where educational standards were deliberately made inferior during apartheid. Jeff was also the first black person to be appointed as Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Financial Services Board which is responsible for regulating the entire financial services sector except for banks. He is also an award winner owing to his efforts in promoting black people’s opportunities in the accounting profession.
